Empowering Voices: The B.L.A.C.C. ERG's Role
In celebration of Black History Month, the Chicago Bears hosted their third annual "Black in Sports" panel, a significant platform for Black professionals within the organization. This event, organized by the Building Leaders and Creating Community (B.L.A.C.C.) Employee Resource Group (ERG), allows participants to share personal experiences and insights about navigating the sports industry. This initiative reflects the Bears' dedication to fostering inclusive dialogue not just during Black History Month but throughout the entire year.
The Pillars of Community Engagement
The B.L.A.C.C. ERG focuses on four foundational pillars: education and professional development, business enhancement, community engagement, and culture building. These guiding principles emphasize the group's commitment to supporting employees in their personal and professional growth. According to co-lead Chidera Udeh, the ERG thrives on fostering strong community ties and creating spaces where all members feel valued. "The ERG is nothing without its members. Knowing there's a space wholly dedicated to their growth is invaluable," Udeh remarked. This sentiment resonates across the organization, highlighting the importance of belonging and authenticity in the workplace.

This year's panel featured prominent figures from the Bears, including Ted Crews, Crystal Sain, and Brice McAllister, who offered valuable insights into their career journeys in sports. Moderated by Jasmine Baker, the conversation delved into crucial topics like mentorship and the significance of being one’s authentic self in the sports industry. Co-lead Marquis White highlighted the dual importance of excellence and authenticity: "My hope is that people see that excellence and authenticity can coexist and that they can carve out their own path in sports... and truly say, 'I belong here too.'”

The B.L.A.C.C. ERG, under the leadership of executive vice president Meka White Morris, continues to evolve, paving the way for future discussions that promote diversity and inclusion.
