An Ayrshire team of ten dynamic women known as the "Ski Sirens" has etched their name in the record books by completing a 100K ski erg challenge. Not only did they set a new world record, but they also broke the British record by ten minutes in the women’s 40-49 age category, bringing pride and inspiration to their community.
Celebrating Teamwork and Community Spirit
Held at ULT Fitness and Crossfit in Ayr, the event was more than just a competition; it was a fundraiser for Ayrshire Hospice. Participants tackled the challenge with resilience, laughter, and a strong bond of camaraderie. Team member Evey Prentice shared the experience, describing the rollercoaster of emotions and the motivation that fueled their performance—"We sang, we danced, we laughed…we miscounted, we sweated, and we swore," she remarked.

The team's success can be traced back to their coach, Annie Atkins, who herself is a multiple British and World record holder in Concept2 indoor rowing. Following a life-altering medical scare that led to her stage four bowel cancer diagnosis, Annie exemplified resilience by planning her comeback to fitness shortly after surgery. "Having goals and a positive mindset definitely helps your recovery," Annie stated, highlighting the importance of mental strength in overcoming personal challenges.

The Ski Sirens' journey was characterized not just by individual victories but by a collective spirit. Friends and family cheered for the team during their challenge, fostering a supportive atmosphere. The youngest supporter was Annie's granddaughter, Orlaith, a reminder of the multigenerational impact of such achievements. Together, they embodied the belief that success is sweeter when shared.
