Valvoline’s Commitment to Diversity Shines

Valvoline Inc. is making waves in the business community with its dedication to creating a diverse workforce from within. With over 11,000 employees, the company’s latest 2024 Impact Report reveals an impressive 57% of executive roles held by women, including pivotal positions such as President and CEO and Chief Financial Officer. This leadership dynamic highlights Valvoline's progressive stance on gender representation, which is crucial not only for the company but for inspiring future generations in the automotive industry.

Empowering Employees Through Representation

At the heart of Valvoline’s culture is their belief in employee empowerment. Amberlynn Holder, a Franchise Business Consultant and an active member of POWER—Valvoline’s women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG)—states, "Throughout my career in the automotive industry, I’ve recognized the power of representation in shaping opportunities and inspiring future generations. Through POWER, we collaborate to amplify voices, create supportive spaces, and champion an environment where everyone can develop meaningful skills that contribute to a more inclusive and forward-thinking industry." This commitment showcases the importance of diversity, revealing how representation can reshape industries and inspire those who follow.

A Training Culture That Drives Growth

Valvoline thrives on a training-focused culture, emphasizing the advancement of its employees. In FY24 alone, a significant number of managerial positions were filled by promoting team members who began their careers in hourly roles. The structured training programs offered by the company are thorough; for instance, new hires undergo 270 hours of onboarding training in the first 60 days, followed by an additional 240 hours of training geared towards their promotability within the following months. Such an investment in training not only prepares employees for current roles but actively nurtures their professional journeys.

Recognition for Development Initiatives

The dedication to advancement has earned Valvoline accolades such as the 11-time recipient of the Training APEX Award and the ATD BEST Award, placing it on ATD’s “Best of the BEST” list. Nearly 3,000 employees participated in talent development programs last year, contributing to an incredible total of 46,208 hours focused on growth and skill enhancement. These statistics are a testament to Valvoline's commitment to cultivating talent and fostering an environment that encourages personal and professional development.

Building a Culture of Belonging

Valvoline’s inclusive environment is further illustrated through its diverse set of active Employee Resource Groups, including POWER for women, PRIDE for LGBTQIA+ individuals, and dedicated groups for veterans and minorities. This strategic move ensures that voices from various backgrounds are not only heard but valued, solidifying the company's commitment to equity and belonging.

Investing in Employee Well-Being

Beyond professional development, Valvoline takes significant steps to ensure employee well-being. Initiatives like the Life Navigator program and the Be Well platform provide support for emotional, physical, and financial needs, enhancing the overall workplace experience. This multifaceted approach to employee care shows that Valvoline is not only invested in the professional growth of its team but also in their holistic happiness and fulfillment.

Looking Ahead: A Model for the Industry

In a world where workplace diversity is crucial, Valvoline sets a shining example of how businesses can promote inclusion from within. Their commitment to nurturing talent and creating a supportive environment is a model for others in the automotive industry and beyond. As the company continues to grow and evolve, it will undoubtedly remain a beacon of innovation, empowerment, and community building.
