Quinlan Career Week: Networking Opportunities for Future Business Leaders

Networking at Quinlan Career Week, young professionals engaged in conversation.

The Power of Networking at Quinlan Career Week

The second annual Quinlan Career Week held at Loyola University Chicago was a pivotal occasion for students, helping bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice. With over 80 alumni participating, this event allowed students to connect with successful professionals across various sectors, unveiling invaluable industry insights and career advice.

Inside the Events: A Showcase of Opportunities

Throughout the week, activities including guest lectures, networking dinners, and a Supply Chain Networking and Career Fair were organized. Alumni shared personal narratives that illuminated their career paths, often reflecting on the challenges they faced. Nabeha Sajid, a sophomore, emphasized how alumni guest speakers provided a comfort level, allowing students to gain insights from the safety of their classrooms.

Inspiration from Successful Alumni Entrepreneurs

The week also featured an engaging entrepreneurial panel where alumni, including Jaime Acosta and Holly Glowaty, discussed their entrepreneurial journeys. They highlighted the unpredictable nature of career trajectories, encouraging students to embrace flexibility and adaptability in their professional lives. Yasmine Rea-Carrera, a freshman, found hearing these stories particularly motivating as they resonated with her aspirations.

Key Takeaways from Industry Leaders

Keynote speakers Kevin Willer and Taylor O'Malley enriched the week's agenda by sharing their experiences. Willer, known for co-founding Google's Chicago office, stressed the essential nature of preparation and networking as critical factors in standing out to potential employers. O'Malley echoed this sentiment, focusing on the necessity of adaptability in an ever-evolving business landscape.

Cultivating Career Readiness

As Ralen Ricardo from Career Services pointed out, the overarching theme of Career Week was a commitment to career readiness. Students participated in essential workshops, including a Networking and Etiquette Dinner that taught them how to navigate professional interactions during meals. These initiatives are not merely events; they represent a transformative opportunity for students to equip themselves for success in the workforce.

Making Connections That Matter

Career Week showcases the Quinlan School of Business's dedication to fostering strong connections between students and the business community. This initiative not only aids students in discovering various career paths but also imbues them with confidence as they prepare to transition into the professional realm.
